Anthrax, dengue patients recovering

VISAKHAPATNAM: A Girijan from Paderu mandal, who was admitted to the King George Hospital for treatment of cutaneous anthrax on Monday and a schoolboy from Yerravaram in Elamanchili mandal, admitted in a private hospital with dengue fever, are recovering.

The cutaneous anthrax case was detected in the Visakha Agency area after a gap of several weeks with Majji Balanna (40) of Dummaputtu under Dokuluru panchayat brought to KGH after being treated at the Paderu CHC. The earlier cases were reported from Munchingput and GK Veedhi mandals. He had reportedly eaten beef given by a relative a few days ago.

Surveillance was started in the area after the anthrax case was reported, District Medical and Health Officer J. Sarojini said on Monday.

Pitta Bhaskar (11), son of Srinivasa Rao of Yerravaram, was rushed to the city and admitted in the Visakha Children's Hospital two days ago for treatment of dengue and he had recovered, Dr. Sarojini said. Meanwhile spraying operations and other anti-dengue steps were being taken in the village.
