Students' chapter opened at GITAM varsity

VISAKHAPATNAM: Biotechnology helped him to overcome problems he had faced in raising the crops, said a progressive farmer of Navneeta Evergreens K. Ramesh, while inaugurating the Institution of Engineers (India)'s students' chapter in the Biotechnology Department of GITAM University here on Monday.

In a simple language Mr. Ramesh explained the agriculture operations and the methods to be adopted by involving biotechnology and other sciences.

Mr. Ramesh revealed that after consulting the agricultural scientists, he had developed a high-yielding chilli variety and a disease resistant cotton variety.

Mr. Ramesh identified a pest, pathogen, which was used as a bio-pesticide for cotton crop.

He advised that students to improve their observation skills and show interest in the agricultural sector.

Principal of GITAM Institute of Technology D. Prasada Rao felicitated Mr. Ramesh. Prof.

Prasada Rao said the new students chapter would benefit the students in improving their skills. Vice-Principal M. Potha Raju and HoD and Chairman of IEI Biotechnology Students' Chapter R. Sinha also spoke. The faculty and students of the Department of Biotechnology, GIT attended the programme.
