JNTUH offers new courses

HYDERABAD: The Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) has announced new courses, launch of new centres and large-scale revision of syllabus on the eve of its first Foundation Day.

"New syllabus for undergraduate and post-graduate courses was revised in accordance with Washington Accord, a global treaty on recognition of engineering courses, from present academic year," said D.N. Reddy, Vice-Chancellor, here on Thursday. The varsity is celebrating its first Foundation Day on Friday.

Five-year integrated programme in CSE, ECE, EEE, CE and MED disciplines are commencing from the current (2009-10) academic year. Students will get B.Tech degree after four years and can choose between M.Tech or MBA degrees in final year. Admission will be through EAMCET.
M. Tech programmes

Three M.Tech programmes with specialisations of bioinformatics, VLSI and embedded systems and infrastructure engineering and an MBA in international business are being introduced. Twin M.Sc (engineering) and M.Tech programmes are being offered in collaboration with Blekinge Institute of Technology, Sweden. System and Signal Processing, Telecommunication Systems and Software Engineering branches will be on offer and students will have to study two semesters in Sweden.

Five centres of excellence to conduct research on aging, alternative energy options, e-learning solutions, computer aided designing and engineering and VLSI and embedded systems are to be opened.

"JNTUH is the first technological university in the State to get 12-B status from the UGC following which a fund of Rs. 19 crore was granted to start new centres and courses," said Prof. Reddy. The Foundation Day ceremony will have a galaxy of eminent personalities as guests including Dr. Prahlad of the Defence Research and Development Organisation.
