AIISH to open study centre in Bhagalpur

MYSORE: The Mysore-based All India Institute of Speech and Hearing (AIISH), a premier institute imparting training and clinical services in the field of speech and hearing, is expanding its connectivity to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College at Bhagalpur in Bihar. This is to generate manpower for the diploma in hearing, language and speech (DHLS) course through quasi-distance mode.

It launched the DHLS course under quasi-distance mode in 2007-08 establishing study centres at New Delhi, Puducherry, Imphal and Mumbai. The connectivity was expanded in 2008-09 to study centres in six more places — Ajmer, Lucknow, Cuttack, Ranchi, Shimla and Jabalpur. The study centre at Bhagalpur will be the 11th centre.

B.K. Prasad, Joint Secretary (Health), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, will formally inaugurate the centre through video-conference on August 9, at 10 a.m. at AIISH, on the occasion of its 44th annual day.

Dayanand Dondgaonkar, former Vice-Chancellor, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and Secretary-General, Association of Indian Universities will be the chief guest. Vijayalakshmi Basavaraj, director, AIISH, will preside.
Launch

On the same day, the website — www.aiishcredm.in — of the Centre for Rehabilitation and Education, which imparts courses under distance mode will be launched. The aim of the centre is to provide clinical services to that segment of the population which does not have simple and more economic means of access to such services, and to empower the parents/caregivers.
