Vet colleges to have video consultations

Chennai: Now veterinary practitioners at Namakkal Veterinary College can hold live consultations with surgeons at Madras Veterinary College (MVC), thanks to the video-conferencing facility launched by Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVACS) on Monday.

Vice-chancellor Dr P Thangaraju said, "This is the first time in the country that such a facility is being launched in a veterinary university. It will help doctors in Namakkal consult surgeons in MVC, while performing difficult surgeries.

Students and faculty can also listen to live lectures by doctors and professors from foreign universities." Set up at a cost of Rs 15.5 lakh, the facility is expected to enable better co-ordination between MVC, the university head office in Madhavaram and the veterinary college in Namakkal. It was unveiled at an international symposium on the changing scenario in veterinary medicine at MVC.
