Team from Bishop Cotton Boys' School does IT again

BANGALORE: The team from Bishop Cotton Boys' School repeated last year's performance at the "TCS IT Wiz Quiz" (Bangalore edition) by winning a closely fought contest at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall here on Wednesday.
Stiff competition

Warding off stiff competition from the other finalists, Rishab Mehta and Manish Burman of Bishop Cotton Boys' School won the trophy. They received Lenovo laptops among other prizes. More than 1,200 students participated in the event.

"We were trying to continue what our seniors started last year. I am proud to say that we won," a beaming Rishab told The Hindu.

Manish said that he had received a lot of help from his schoolmates and teachers besides ample inspiration from his seniors, who won the event last year.

They said that they had been waiting and preparing for the quiz for a long time. They said that they felt a little sick at the beginning of the event. "But our brains started working once the quiz started," they added.

Keeping pace with the changing trends in Information Technology, the quiz had several mind-bending rounds: Twittering, which had topics from IT happenings across the globe; @TCS , based exclusively on TCS; Tagging, a visual round; Crop IT , a round requiring speed of thought and a good bandwidth of IT; SWODS, a round where you "See what others don't see".
Runners-up

Rohan Mehta and Sonal Saldanha of St. Joseph's Boys' High School were the runners-up.

They received trophies and digital cameras. Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao distributed the prizes.

The other teams that made it to the finals after the written preliminary test were National Public School, National Academy for Learning, Frank Anthony Public School and Sri Kumaran's Public School.

The annual TCS IT Wiz Quiz is open to students from classes eight to twelve.
Aim

The aim of the event is to enhance IT awareness among students and also keep them informed on the role IT plays in today's society and economy.

Starting with Bangalore, the nation-wide quiz, will be conducted across 12 cities, reaching out to 2 lakh students.
