Revenue dept special drive yields results

KURNOOL: The 100-day special drive launched by the Revenue Department to take all revenue products to the doorsteps of public in rural areas has been yielding good results.

In the first phase, mutations week was observed to update land records and issue pattedar passbooks to all land owners. A total of 21,000 passbooks have been issued to farmers after incorporating the changes in the records.

Now, issuing of caste and income certificates for students and job-seekers is underway. The revenue officials, accompanied by support staff, are visiting schools and issuing certificates to students after due verification on the spot. The support of teachers is also being taken. Only in doubtful cases, the verification is kept pending. Nearly one lakh students will benefit from the exercise.

In the next phase, the department will undertake disposal of land ceiling cases pending with the Land Reforms Tribunal. A total of 1,000 acre would be recovered and distributed among the poor. So far, 320 acre was secured.

Also, the pending cases under the provisions of SC, ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act are being disposed of. In many cases, the victims have been waiting for the financial assistance.
Possession week

Also, assistance would be disbursed to victims waiting under Family Benefit scheme and 'Apadbandhu'. A possession week would be observed to show land to the assignees.

District Revenue Officer B. Laxmikantham who was monitoring progress of the programme, told The Hindu that the efficiency of tahsildars and Revenue Divisional Officers mattered the most for proper functioning of the Revenue Department. In order to build their capacities, special training programme would be taken up.

Also, the department realised the importance of inventory of government lands down to mandal headquarters. The lands within the radius of 2 km would be recorded in the prohibitory order book so that such lands could not be alienated easily without the approval of Collector.Finally, village courts would be conducted to deal with revenue matters giving grand finale to the programme.
