Improve quality of Kannada medium schools

"We should make a list of all those who studied in Kannada medium and have risen to high positions in life and submit it as an affidavit to the Supreme Court," said Kateel Dinesh Pai, an activist.

He was speaking at a meeting organised by the Dakshina Kannada Sahitya Parishat to discuss on "Education policy" in the wake of Supreme Court's recent decision of permitting English medium schools to function in Karnataka.

The parishat decided to urge the Government to improve the quality of Kannada medium schools in the State and to introduce English as a subject from class one and continue Kannada as the medium of instruction from class one to class four. Raghavendra Bhat, a practicing doctor, said: "In Korea, France, China and Russia, medical education is imparted not in English but in their national language." This statement led to another demand by the parishat that at least one subject in higher studies be taught in Kannada. "We also demand for the appointment of a teacher to every class," said Praeep Kumar Kalkura, president of the parishat.
