KSOU to offer certificate courses

The Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) proposes to offer certificate courses in basic health education in association with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

Vice-Chancellor of the KSOU Vivek Rai told presspersons here on Thursday that the response to the proposal from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences is awaited.

Meanwhile, the KSOU has already entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Fr Muller Charitable Institution, which is running a medical collegein Mangalore, to start offering certificate courses in basic medicine and health sciences from the current academic year.

Prof. Rai said the KSOU has signed an MoU with the University of Agriculture Sciences, Bangalore, for jointly offering five certificate courses in agricultural sciences. While the practical part of learning by the students would be taken care of by the UAS, Bangalore, and the medical college and paramedical institutions run by Fr. Muller Charitable Institution at Mangalore, examinations would be conducted by the KSOU. In reply to a query, Prof. Rai said that a four-member committee had been formed by the Government to deliberate on allowing conventional universities in the State to offer distance education programme.
