Diploma students stage demonstrations



Diploma students took out protest marches in Hubli and Dharwad on Tuesday seeking immediate steps to solve their problems.

Holding placards, they demanded that steps be taken to address their grievances, especially the order on carry over system.

They also staged demonstrations in front of the diploma institutions in the twin cities condemning the recent order the Board of Technical Education.

The protest was in response to the call for a State-wide protest by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad.

The protestors along with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad submitted memorandums to the tahsildars of Hubli and Dharwad.

In the memorandums, the students sought permission for admission to fifth semester even if a student fails in four subjects in the examinations of first to fourth semester of the course.

The students sought an amendment to the rules in this regard.

Their other demands are giving two chances till November 2009 and May 2010 to students to appear for examinations, issue of free smart cards, and proper infrastructure in government polytechnics. State ABVP executive committee member Mahendra Kautal and office-bearers Ajay Joshi, Krishna Bidaralli, Tejaswini and Ranjana participated in the protests.
