Anti-ragging rally by GITAM students

VISAKHAPATNAM: More than 500 students of GITAM University took out a rally against ragging in the university campus on Thursday, a part of ragging-free campus campaign. GITAM's N.S.S. Unit and Rotaract Club students unit jointly organised the programme.

While inaugurating the rally Principal of GITAM Institute of Technology D. Prasada Rao told the students that ragging was against the concept of equality, student unity and civilised behaviour. Ragging would always hurt fellow human beings and claimed many innocent lives. Prof. Prasada Rao said that university was taking all precautions to control the ragging and an anti-ragging committee, consisting of senior faculty members, was formed.

Pamphlets appealing to students to refrain from indulging in ragging and also with details of punishments for ragging, were distributed. Placards with slogans like "No fear on our campus", "ragging is inhuman, let us stop the cycle of ragging", etc. were displayed.

The students took a pledge against ragging.
