ONGC donates computers to rural school in Tirunelveli
The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) donated 12 computers and computer education materials, totally costing about Rs.5 lakh, to Tilak Vidyalaya Higher Secondary School, Kallidaikurichi, in the district on Thursday.
Chief Manager (HR), ONGC, Chennai, N. Mani, who inaugurated the computer lab, said the ONGC had increased its 'social spending' from 0.75 percent to 2 percent of its net profit from this financial year. "This has made the ONGC the largest corporate spender in the country as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility programmes," he noted.
While Chief Manager (HR), ONGC, Delhi, Saket Gupta said that rural primary education was a focus area for ONGC, Director (HR), ONGC, A.K. Balyan wished the school, which is all set to celebrate its centenary in a couple of years.
Former Director (Personnel), ONGC and an alumnus of the school S. Ramanathan noted that the ONGC was a forerunner in the implementation of former President Abdul Kalam's dream of Providing Urban amenities to Rural Areas (PURA) and supporting rural schools like Tilak Vidyalaya.
President of the school K.S. Raman, correspondent K.S. Sankarasubramaniam, president of the Parents - Teachers Association M. Raghavan and headmaster P. Subbiah were present.
