Student lauded for performance in digital elocution competition

Udhagamandalam: Niharika Anna John, a sixth standard student of the Crescent School here was the toast of the institution on Wednesday.

Having bagged the third place at the national level in the 'Junior' category of a digital Elocution competition conducted jointly by the Reliance Communications and Microsoft earlier this year, a team representing the organizers landed at the school to recognise her feat in a fitting manner.

About 9,000 students across the country had vied for honours. Out of 13 short listed for the semi- finals five reached the finals.

The General Manager, Reliance Communications, Tamil Nadu, Rajeev Chandra Valli, told The Hindu that the competition was being held for the past few years and its popularity was growing.

The objective was to give students all over the country, particularly in far flung areas, an opportunity to showcase their talent.

While Niharika acknowledged the role of her parents and teachers in helping her shine in the competition, the correspondent of the school Umar Farook said, "If students aim high they will surely hit the bull's eye."

With all the students and staff applauding Mr. Valli handed over a personal computer, a trophy and a scholarship to Niharika Anna John for her achievement.
