Micro-sites for all directorates of School Education

CHENNAI: The official website of the Department of School Education, www.pallikalvi.in, now includes a micro-site each for all seven directorates functioning under it.

Browsers have access to information pertaining to the Directorates of School Education, Elementary Education, Government Examination, Teacher Education Research and Training, Matriculation Schools, Non-formal and Adult Education and Public Libraries, all under the purview of the Department.

The home page of each of these micro-sites carries information on the mission of the Directorate, its scope and function, and the contact information of the officials.

Speaking to The Hindu on Monday, School Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu said that the Department sought to make all information pertaining to school education easily available.

The Department is also exploring ways to stretch the scope of the online facility. "Recently, we held online counselling for teachers across various districts simultaneously. It went off very smoothly and quickly. We consider it a milestone," he said. Besides saving time, online counselling ensured more transparency, he added.

On the other new segments on the site, Mr.Thennarasu said information on the various welfare schemes and scholarships were made available.

"We want to enhance the site further, by putting up updates on the Department's initiatives and plans on a regular basis." Soon, all Government Orders and circulars will be posted on the site.

"We are also considering launching of an online redressal system and complaint cell, so that there is a forum where students, parents and teachers can voice their concerns."

The website, which was launched in March this year, has nearly 61,34,000 visitors so far. "We have made available a lot of information and we will keep updating it constantly. The focus now is on making it more interactive."
