Post-Matric scholarships to 50,000 students

KHAMMAM: The district administration has taken up an awareness programme on the online submission of application forms for sanction of post-Matric scholarships to the SC, ST, BC and physically challenged welfare students. Addressing a news conference here this evening, the Collector, V. Usharani said that a sum of Rs33.42 crores was released b by the government for the purpose by the government.

About 50,000 students would be benefited by the post-Matric scholarships in the district.

So far 60,244 applications were received in the colleges. They included 15,785 from the SCs, 18431 from the STs and 25720 from the BCs. In all 11,107 of them were rejected for various reasons.

The amount drawn in the district for payment of the scholarships was Rs 18.22.67 crores. She wanted all colleges to facilitate online entry by providing computer with online facility.

She said that a tie up was made with 73 branches of three nodal banks - SBH, SBI and the Andhra Bank for payment of the post-Matric scholarships.

The students will open bank accounts in the nodal banks allotted 349 colleges from July 27 to 31. The nodal banks will credit the amounts to the accounts of the students or principals of the colleges concerned from September1 to 10.
