Training kit distributed to teachers in Tuticorin

Tuticorin: Chief Minister's Pallichirar Kannoli Kaapom Thittam gained momentum here after the implementation of block-level training for teachers in Srivaikundam Block on Friday.

Collector G. Prakash distributed the training kit to 44 teachers for carrying out the screening test.

The kit consists of snellan's number and e-chart, printed register for enrolling the students identified with defective vision, double side sticking plasters for affixing the chart on the wall, scissors, a six-meter inch tape, pen and an inspection manual.

Presiding over the programme, Mr. Prakash highlighted the significance of the newly launched programme in the large interest of student fraternity. The school children will take a decisive role and carve a niche in their career. Therefore, the teachers should render their services with sheer commitment and dedication.

The officials in the departments of education and public health should also render services in tandem to execute the given task in a successful manner, he said.

The trained para medical ophthalmic assistants and Block Medical Officers will impart training for teachers to screen a total of 6, 413 students of classes six, seven and eight in governments and aided schools of Srivaikundam block.

Earlier, the District Coordination Committee meeting was convened at the Collectorate on June 26 and Mr. Prakash held discussions with officials representing various offices and sought the cooperation of inter-departmental staff in executing their responsibilities systematically.

During the meeting, as many as 482 middle schools with 82,440 students were set as target in the entire district to launch the drive.

Apart from this scheme, the other school health programmes for the students were free heart surgery (Ilanchirar Irudhaya Pathukaapu Thittam) immunisation against diphtheria, tetanus and free medication for deworming and other precautionary measures, S. Uma, Deputy Director, Health Services, Tuticorin, said.

Rayappan, Vice-Chairman, Srivaikundam Union, Selvi Arunachalam, Chairperson, Srivaikundam Union, M.R. Kannan, president, Town Panchayat, V. Veluchamy, Joint Director, Health Services, and P. Bright Xavier, Chief Education Officer, were present.
