Good health practices stressed

WARANGAL: The diseases transmitted from animals to human beings could be prevented with little bit of awareness and by popularising good health practices, said district Collector N. Sridhar.

Inaugurating an awareness camp organised by the Animal Husbandry Department on the eve of World Zoonoses Day here on Monday, Mr. Sridhar called for more coordination between the animal husbandry and public health departments. He wanted government officials, dairy owners and proprietors of poultry farms to create awareness about rearing of animals free from diseases among the people. The Collector wanted the government officials to ensure frequent vaccination of all domestic animals to prevent diseases such as rabies, anthrax, brain fever among others. Animal Husbandry joint director V. Laxma Reddy said the district has 14 lakh cattle population.

About 6.89 per cent of employees of the department were suffering from brucellosis which is contracted through shepherds, veterinary employees and dairy products. The department was planning to come out with a comprehensive plan to tackle this occupational hazard.

Scores of animals were vaccinated on the occasion.
