IITs plan to hold job fairs abroad to get quality faculty

IITs are planning to adopt a multi-pronged strategy, including holding job fairs abroad, to attract quality teachers for the premier institutes.

The IIT Directors, who met here last week, discussed the options of going to the US and Europe to hold special faculty recruitment drive to get teachers.

"What we need is quality faculty. For getting good teachers, we are proposing to hold job fairs and special recruitment drive abroad," an IIT director said.

There are also plans to allow the newly recruited faculty to do Post-Doc for a certain period in a foreign institution.

"This will encourage quality faculty to join IITs as they can do their Post-Doc abroad," he said.

These proposals come at a time when the government is working on a Brain-gain policy to get back Indians teaching in foreign institutions.

HRD Minister Kapil Sibal has said the new Brain-gain policy will be ready in 100 days.

All the IITs will require about 5,000 faculty members once the new ones become fully operational, the director said. The new IITs have already started the faculty recruitment process.
