Training to enhance teachers' communicative ability

Tuticorin: A district level preparatory workshop on Classroom Language Training Programme commenced here on Tuesday at Seena Vaana High School campus ahead of the second phase of training for the teachers of government and government aided schools.

The programme was aimed at enhancing the communicative ability of teachers handling classes from standards 1 to 5.

A batch of teachers in the entire district would be trained to handle students at rural level. The first batch of training would commence from July 6 to 10 and the second batch from July 13 while third and fourth batches would start from dates between 20 and 24; 27 and 31 of July, respectively.

The sessions would be held in all blocks in the district, simultaneously.

As many as 30 master trainers including Block Resource Teacher Educators in English, District Institute of Education and Training and the formal teachers would be involved in training sessions.

The topics including general classroom management language.

Asking questions and eliciting, giving instructions and developing confidence in using English in the classroom would also be covered during the course of time, T. Amirtharaj Jayakaran , Chief Education Officer, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, said.

Over 1, 500 teachers were expected to benefit from the programme.

The programme was sponsored by British Council in association with UNICEF and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
