Periyar University extends last date for submitting applications for PG courses

SALEM: Periyar University has extended the last date for submission of application forms for the postgraduate courses offered through its departments, following a delay in the evaluation of answer scripts and publication of results for undergraduate courses.

The university, in its earlier notification inviting applications for admissions to 18 PG courses, asked the candidates to submit the forms by June 19.

As the results for the UG courses were not yet published, the university had decided to extend the last date for submission of application forms.

Registrar S. Gunasekaran said the results for all the UG courses were expected to be published by the end of this month.

Students could submit their applications within 10 days from the date of publication of results.

The decision was taken mainly to help the students, who studied in the affiliated colleges of Periyar University and were awaiting results, apply for the PG courses offered by the university, he added. Over 600 students had already applied after seeing the previous notification.
Staff shortage

Meanwhile, sources claimed that the publication of results for the UG courses might be delayed further as the university was facing severe staff shortage.

The Office of the Controller of Examinations has a few regular staff, who are finding it difficult to carry out activities such as data entry and processing. "The staff shortage is the main reason for the delay in the publication of results. Though the university started the process for recruiting non-teaching staff a few months ago, it is yet to yield any fruitful results," university officials point out.
