English cut-off may head north for CATE

With a huge rush for application forms for the Combined Aptitude Test for English (CATE), the cut-off for English (honours) is expected to go up by 0.5-1.5 points this year, at least in the first list.
Moreover, admission officials feel that English cut-offs may also be affected by those high scorers who fail to make it to the honours programmes in BCom and economics.

'' The highest number of applications used to be for BCom (honours) followed by economics (honours) and English (honours).

We have different counters for submission, according to the Class XII aggregate, and have seen a marked increase in number of students having 90% and above as well as 85% and above. We're waiting for the scanning of applications to be complete, but I think the cut-off for English (honours) will rise this year,'' said S R Arora, principal, Hans Raj College.
