I-Mode (Information Mode) is a wireless technology developed by the Japanese company NTT DoCoMo.I-Mode phones allows users to access internet via their cell phones.

Websites of I-Mode are coded in i-HTML, which is a subset of HTML.I-Mode uses "packet switched" data transmission so users do not have to sign-in or sign-off. They have continuous access to network, which helps reduce the cost for the costumer as they pay only for the volume of packets sent or received, rather the time online.

After its phenomenal success in Japan, NTT DoCoMo is all set conquer new territory in Europe. As a step in this direction the Japanese company has bought stakes in a number of major telecom companies in Europe like the Dutch company, KPN Mobile, and others.

However, analysts are uncertain as to how successful the I-Mode services will be outside Japan, since the success of I-Mode in Japan is largely due to a number of conditions prevailing in the Japanese market, which are not repeated elsewhere. .
