Tailoring course concludes

SALEM: Salem Steel Plant (SSP) in coordination with the Centre for Non Formal and Vocational Education of Sona College of Technology, Salem, conducted a multi-skilled industry-level tailoring training and also provided jobs for 59 women of its peripheral villages under the Plant's CSR scheme.

These women trainees from Vattamuthampatti, Thalavaipatti and M. Kollapatti were handed over training certificates by B.B. Singh, Executive Director, SSP at a function on Friday.

Anil Lakshmi Chand, Director, Operation, M/s Sundar Sons India Exports, Salem, handed over the appointment letters to the trainees.

The plant had earlier arranged training and appointment for 26 women of its adopted Model Steel Village, Thirumalaigiri, during October last year.

Providing feedback on women empowerment drive taken up by the plant in collaboration with Sona College of Technology, a woman trainee narrated her story of success by saying that earlier her husband was reluctant to send her for training.

"But now he prompts me to go to work in time," she claimed.

Another trainee said that with her earnings she was able to support the educational needs of her children in time.

Another woman expressed that the training had brought cheer to her home as she was now spending less on clothes because she could stitch her husband's dress and embroider her sarees.

All of them expressed their thanks to the Salem Steel Plant for providing the opportunity, which they claimed had uplifted their standard of living.

Those who took part in the function included P. Govindarajan, Principal, Sona College of Technology and others.
