Training for teachers starts

TIRUCHI: A two-day district-level training in re-designing ABL (activity-based learning) cards for secondary teachers and block resource teachers commenced at the Town Hall Girls' Higher Secondary School here on Monday under the aegis of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan.

According to officials, the ABL methodology that has resulted in enhanced self-confidence and academic progress of students has been finetuned this year, based on the National Curricular Framework 2005 and the feedback obtained from teachers last year.

Accordingly the ABL cards have been re-designed, and the methodology will be implemented for educating students of standards I and II only.

A similar training will be conducted at Musiri Government Boys' Higher Secondary School on June 10 and 11.

The training would cover 128 secondary teachers and 234 block resource teachers, official sources added.

The British Council and UNICEF will jointly conduct five-day residential training programmes for English proficiency in two phases – from June 9 to 13 and from June 15 to 19 – for the benefit of 118 teacher educators and 27 English teachers from six districts, and eight lecturers of District Institute of Education and Training, at the Tamil Nadu Laity Commission in Pirattiyur.

According to a press release issued by Collector T. Soundiah, the participants have been drawn from Tiruchi, Karur, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Villupuram and Perambalur districts.

Resource persons from the British Council would handle the training organised as part of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan scheme, the release said.
