Students advised to choose a career based on their aptitude

SALEM: 'The Hindu Education Plus Career Guidance Session and Fair' held here on Saturday came as a timely assistance for the students who are in the process of making an importance decision on their career.

Experts, interacting with the students, asked them to choose a career based on their interests.

"The decision that you are going to take now should reflect your interests. You should listen to yourself while choosing a course for higher education," TV anchor C. Gopinath advised them while speaking in the first session.

The children should be given freedom to choose their career. "One cannot be forced to become something. Parents should only guide the children," he pointed out.

Advising the students to be focussed in their studies, he asked them to be creative and enterprising individuals. It was very unfortunate that a majority of the students in the higher education these days were trying to get jobs and work for someone else. They were not showing interest to learn beyond what was needed to get a job. This trend should change.

"Instead of becoming an employee in an organisation, you should develop a passion to be a boss," he stressed.
Passion

Students should take their life easy and work with passion to achieve their goals, he added.

Career Consultant Jayaprakash Gandhi asked the students to know about the courses offered by different institutions before taking a decision.

Apart from engineering and medicine, there were a number of courses which offer bright career for the students. A majority of the students were not aware of courses such as Climate Science, Coastal Disaster Management and Operations Research, which offer good job opportunities. There was a huge demand for experts in Economics.

He asked the parents and students to consider various aspects before choosing a course and an institution.

Planned approach
Sona College of Technology Dean K. Karunakaran appealed to the students to adopt a planned approach to achieve their goals.

Paavai Educational Institutions Chairman CA. N.V. Natarajan explained the importance of choosing a right institution to pursue higher education.

Effort
Vinayaka Missions University Vice-Chancellor V.R.R. Rajendran said that students should aim high and put in wholehearted effort to emerge successful.

Opportunity
Delivering the keynote address, Chief of Bureau, The Hindu, Coimbatore, G. Satyamurty asked the students to take full advantage of the opportunity presented by 'The Hindu Education Plus'.

Special Correspondent, The Hindu, Salem, R. Ilangovan inaugurated the programme.

Regional General Manager, Tiruchi, R. Srinivasan presided over the function.

Assistant Regional General Manager (Advertisement), Coimbatore, R.L. Shivakumar welcomed the gathering and Senior Advertisement Executive, Salem, A. Balaji proposed a vote of thanks.

The programme was co-sponsored by Sona College of Technology, Salem and Paavai Educational Institutions, Namakkal.
