Hospital mix-up upsets couple

MYSORE: Tension prevailed at Cheluvamba Hospital here on Tuesday when a group of people staged a dharna accusing the hospital doctors of giving wrong information about the birth of twins.

Nandini (21) of Hinkal was admitted to the hospital for delivery on May 12. Her husband, Puttaswamy, was reportedly told by the hospital authorities that Ms. Nandini had delivered a boy and a girl child was stillborn. However, the couple was shocked to see the discharge report on Tuesday stating that Nandini gave birth to male twins. It was written in the report that the twins were born at 12.45 a.m. and at 1.30 a.m.

When the couple questioned the hospital authorities, the authorities reportedly told them that an error had occurred while preparing the report and that there was no lapse on their part. They also told the couple that they should have asked about it on the day of delivery.

Mr. Puttaswamy's relatives and friends and members of the Siddaramaiah Fans Association staged the dharna in front of the hospital demanding justice to the couple. The protesters took up the matter with hospital superintendent Krishnamurthy, who promised to conduct an inquiry into the matter.

Suspecting foul play, the protesters demanded that the girl child's body which was buried, be exhumed and tests conducted to find out whether the child was Ms. Nandini's.
