Engineer, MBA student turn muggers to fund rich life

Two friends, one of them an engineer and the other an MBA student, were arrested on Sunday for allegedly mugging two persons and robbing their cell phones on Friday night, apparently to support their extravagant lifestyle.

According to police, though both the youth had jobs — Dinesh Kumar (24) pursuing his MBA through correspondence in Madras University and working for a company in Tambaram and Saravana Kumar (25) an Engineering graduate doing music shows — they were short of money as they were given to drinking and other vices.

On Friday, Dinesh and Saravana, both residents of Guindy, set out on the motorcyle of Dinesh's employer for a spin around the city. After drinking in a bar near Udhayam Theatre, they went cruising, reportedly looking for commericial sex workers in CIT Nagar.

As they could not find anyone, they drove around aimlessly. Later, they intercepted a software engineer, Bharathi Raj, an Infosys employee, at Ashok Nagar when he was returning home from office. The duo attacked him with stones, broke his tooth and fled with his cell phone.

Soon after, they waylaid an engineering student on 12th Main Road in the same locality and beat him up.
