Students take BU to HC over law exams

In a bid to save their 'lost' year, the failed students of the various law colleges affiliated to the Bangalore University, have challenged the examination procedure before the High Court. As of now, the current semester examination system of the University condemns the failed LLB students for an agonising one-year wait before they can attempt the same exam.

Thus, to impress upon the need for early supplementary exams, M Hemananda and other students of BES College of Law invoked mandamus and made the High Court direct the University to file its objections.

When its reply was sought during hearing on Thursday, the University has sought time, said Nagaraj, advocate appearing for the students.

"The University has not followed the procedures while conducting the exams.

The failed students have to wait one year to write supplementary exams. This practice was followed only in Bangalore University. Without sanctions from the Bar Council of India and Karanataka State Bar Council, the University had adopted this system," Nagaraj added.

This act of the University was unconstitutional, it has no right to deny the education right of the students. There was no problem to the University to conduct early supplementary exams, said Nagaraj.
