Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Nagercoil established in 1965, is the first Women's College in Kanyakumari District, administered by the congregation of the Sisters of the Cross, Madurai Province.

It is the first in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, third in Tamil Nadu and thirteenth in the country to get accredited by NAAC at the 4 star levels in February 1999 & reaccredited at the B++ level on May 20, 2005.

The college has been conferred with the status of autonomy by UGC, New Delhi from the academic year 2007-2008 and has introduced the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for UG and PG degree Courses to make the Courses multidisciplinary in approach.

New courses started in this current academic year (2009-2010) are M.Phil. in Physics and Zoology. The college has introduced Manonmaniam Sundaranar University satellite centre courses in MBA and B.A. English with Computer Application. Moreover the departments of English Literature and Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology have been recognized as research centers.
