Faculty Of Engineering and Technology Jadavpur University

Jadavpur University is located in the state of West Bengal and it is a state owned University. It is located in Kolkata, which is famous for its cultural and rational inheritance.

The parent institution of this University was set up by the National Council of Education, West Bengal back in the year 1906. The institution was altered into a University under the first Jadavpur University Act, 1955 after India's Independence.

The Jadavpur University is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and has declared it as a Centre of Excellence in Mobile Computing and Communication.

The University holds the distinction of being a Five Star University, awarded by the National Assessment and Accreditation Committee.

The Engineering staff of the Jadavpur University is one of the excellent ones, when it comes to training and research in path-breaking fields.

The Science Faculty is very supportive and has been moving ahead with its teaching programme and research in various areas of knowledge with great enthusiasm.

Apart from the Engineering and the Science department, the Arts Faculty also sports many Departments of Special Assistance which include English and Comparative Literature. The Jadavpur University is the only University in the Indian sub-continent that has a Department of Film Studies.

Looking back at the history of Jadavpur University is like tracing a part of the freedom movement itself. During 1905-1906, the dominance of the British Empire had to be challenged. Education needed to become a form of opposition against the British. With this view in mind, the National Council of Education (NCE) was formed.

The main intent of the NCE was to provide education - both scientific and technical, under the National control. Later, in the year 1910, the Society for Promotion of Technical Education in Bengal was unified with the NCE. From thereon, NCE specifically looked after the College of Engineering and Technology, Bengal.

The CET had started to function as a University from the year 1940. On 24th December, 1955, the Government of West Bengal established the Jadavpur University with all the necessary legislation in place.
