Asus Rampage II Gene Motherboard

The latest addition to Asus' 'Republic of Gamers' series of ultra high-end motherboards
isn't something that an enthusiast or a hardcore gamer would expect—a micro-ATX motherboard. This time around, Asus has something to enthrall LAN party goers who prefer carrying a mini tower case instead of a bulky mid tower one.

The last product we saw from the ROG series was the X58-based Rampage II Extreme for the new Intel Core i7 processors. It still remains the leader of the pack because the Rampage II Gene is its younger sibling with a scaled-down feature set.

Features
To shrink the motherboard to micro-ATX form factor, Asus has subtracted a PCIe x16 slot and installed a compact heat sink for the northbridge and voltage regulators.

Despite its compactness, the Rampage II Gene boasts a lavish feature set. The board has six RAM slots which can support up to 24 GB of DDR3 memory, and six SATA ports placed vertically to the surface of the board for easy cable routing. An additional SATA port, eSATA port on the rear panel and an IDE port are courtesy JMicron 363 controller.
