Create a new Photoshop document 200 pixels by 100 pixels, in RGB mode.

Click on Instant Mask.

Select the Type tool and enter type.

Edit>Cut the type to the Clipboard (cmd-X.)
Edit>Paste the type back (cmd-V.) This will automagically center the type in the document.
Drop the pasted item--Select>None(cmd-D).

Select Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur.
Use a Radius of 3.
Once again, Edit>Paste (cmd-V) the type from the clipboard.
Drop the pasted item--Select>None(cmd-D). (OOPS! This was missing from before!)

This will be the relief map.

Select the RGB channels (cmd-0.)
Select Filter>Render>Lighting Effects...

Select Light Type: Directional. Intensity of 34. Properties: Gloss=100, Material=100, Exposure=0, Ambience=8. And the cool stuff, Texture Channel: pull down to Quick Mask. Leave White is high unchecked. And set the Height to 20. Move the gray handle of the light to the upper left until you get you desired effect. Click OK in the settings window.

None to shabby. Still with us?

Edit>Paste (cmd-V) once again.
Select Hue/Saturation (cmd-H.)

Check the Colorize box. Set Hue to -50 , Saturation to 100, and Lightness to 50. Click OK.

Since the type is a floating selection, set it to Multiply in the Layer Palette.

VoilĂ ! Beauty, eh?

For extra credit, select Omni for Light Type.
