Over 1.48 lakh to appear for VIT entrance

VELLORE: A total of 1,48,735 candidates, comprising 1,16,115 boys and 32,620 girls will be appearing for the VIT Engineering Entrance Examinations (VITEEE)-2009 to be conducted by the VIT University, Vellore in 189 centres in 71 cities throughout the country on April 18, to fill 2,150 seats in 12 B.Tech. courses.

Briefing newspersons about VITEEE-2009 at the VIT campus here on Tuesday, G. Viswanathan, Chancellor of VIT University, said that 1,38,008 candidates wrote the VITEEE-2008 in 170 centres in 58 cities last year.
Largest number

For VITEEE-2009, the largest number of 29,359 applications has been received from Andhra Pradesh, followed by 24,419 from Uttar Pradesh, 14,602 from Bihar, 11,475 from Rajasthan and 9,357 from Tamil Nadu. Among the cities, the largest number of 14,208 applications has been received from Hyderabad, followed by 11,678 from Delhi.
