Fashion technology students showcase their talent at fair

KARUR: Creativity, pragmatism and innovation marked the items on display at the 'Crafty Home Tex Fair 09,' while children walked the ramp at the 'Kids fashion show' organised here recently by students of the faculty of Fashion Technology and Costume Designing, Valluvar College of Science and Management.

On display at the fair were pencil sketches, glass paintings reflecting various moods of persons and images of gods, embossed paintings that breathed life, soft toys that have a fair market potential in any conditions, home tex-products that gave a glimpse of varied business opportunity to the students of the faculty, among other things.

"The exhibition gives us a chance to showcase our talents. The sketches and paintings are of utmost importance to students of fashion designing course as they form the basis of the thought process for us.

A clear picture on the purpose of the whole work emerges from the pencil sketch and the improvement we make on that," observed G. Dharaani, final-year B.Sc. (Fashion Technology and Costume Designing) course student whose many beautiful art pieces were on show.

An hour's effort in drawing a pencil sketch would help build a good foundation for creating a great piece of artwork, she opined.

The painting work section included pot painting, canvas painting, fabric painting, pencil shading, etc. while the wealth-out-of-waste concept found utility in some creative works.

In the nimble hands of the students exquisite forms came to life in the exhibition.

In the kids show, tiny models — attired in the lovely, innovative and colourful outfits conjured up by the students of the college —walked the ramp to steal the hearts of the audience.

Designer wear and outfits that were remarkable were selected for special prizes.

Industrialist V.K. Thangavel, M. Sivakkannan, president, Karur Textile Forum, and K. Senguttuvan, college correspondent, were among those who appreciated the efforts of the students.
