UK student visa tied to admission offer

Keeping in view the security concerns terror has posed to the western countries, the UK has introduced a new student visa system —
Tier 4 — under the Points Based System announced in August last.

According to the Tier 4 system, an applicant should have an unconditional offer (Visa Letter) from an institution in UK, from where he/she has secured an admission. This means the students will be tied-down to one education provider, licensed by UK Border Agency to sponsor international students.

The institution or 'immigration sponsor', in effect, accepts responsibility for the student while he/she is in the UK. So, while students may still receive multiple Visa Letters, they can use only one to apply for the visa. Under the new rule, the name of the education provider will also be there on the visa. The Tier 4 system came into effect from March 31.
