The time for combining traditional knowledge with technology and research had come. "There is a need to research and improve production processes, optimise water supply and opt for a diversified crop pattern, and make farmers aware of global warming and its impact on agriculture, irrigation and food processes," he added.

"It is a healthy trend that students are returning to core streams such as civil engineering and agriculture, and moving away from IT, he said.
