IIM-B students opt for jobs in education sector

Bangalore: Placements at IIM-Bangalore, which was a long-drawn affair this year, came to a close on Tuesday with students accepting offers from PSUs and unusual sectors such as clean energy and education.

Career Launcher and TIME represented the educational sector while the green energy sector was represented by Ecologix and Enzen, which offered international postings. Companies that recruited in the oil and gas and related services domain were GAIL, IOC, BPCL and Castrol.

Out of the batch of 249 students, 25 per cent accepted offers from global consulting firms, 29 per cent decided to join the BFSI sector, 16 per cent took up marketing jobs and an equal number were offered positions in general management. A total of 64 students were placed in Slot Zero.

Major recruiters at the campus this year were Boston Consulting Group and Jaypee Capital (10 students each), IBM (seven students), Bosch and Cognizant Consulting (six students each), Bain & Co, Standard Chartered Bank and UAE exchange (five each).

This year, the IIM-B campus hosted MNCs such as McKinsey & Co, Boston Consulting Group, Bain & Co, Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch, Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC and UAE Exchange, among others. Booz & Co, Aviva and TVS Capital visited the campus for the first time for final placements.

About 25 overseas postings have been offered, said student media representatives.

Students rejected offers from foreign investment banks to work for private equity and consulting firms in India.

Seven students opted out of the placement process to pursue entrepreneurial ventures.
