BANGALORE: The Common Entrance Test (CET) for admission to undergraduate professional courses in government and private colleges in the State has been postponed to May 6 and 8 in view of the Lok Sabha elections. It was earlier scheduled to begin on April 29.

The second phase of polls on April 30 coincided with the examination date for Physics and Chemistry. "The decision was taken at an emergency high-level meeting held on Tuesday afternoon, and fresh dates have been announced early to avoid anxiety to candidates," an official of the Karnataka Examinations Authority said.

While the test for Biology will be on May 6 from 10.30 a.m. to 11.50 a.m., the Mathematics paper will be held in the afternoon session from 2.30 p.m. to 3.50 p.m. On the next day, Physics will be held in the morning session, and students will sit for the Chemistry examination in the afternoon slot. The Kannada Language Test for Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadiga candidates will be held at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively on May 8.

However, there is no change in seat selection process, a press release from the Karnataka Examinations Authority stated. While the CET rank will be used as benchmark for admissions to undergraduate medical and engineering courses, from this year onward, dental admissions will not be based on CET ranks.

Earlier, the Undergraduate Entrance Test 2009 (UGET), conducted by the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMED-K) for undergraduate courses in private medical, dental and engineering colleges, was postponed to May 17 from May 3.
