KOCHI: Senior Congress leader,V. M. Sudheeran, said here on Friday that the wrong policies adopted by the government had affected the overall educational sector in the State.

Delivering the inaugural address at the State meet of Government School Teachers' Union at the Ernakulam Town hall here, Mr. Sudheeran said that the so called reforms by the Education Department had only led to the decline in quality of the education offered to lakhs of students. Comparing the increase in pass percentage to the falling standards in quality of education, Mr. Sudheeran said that the State needed reforms but such efforts should not turn into a farce.

The Education Department's much-hyped reforms had only resulted in utter confusion in the educational sector in the Sate, he said.

Pointing out that the Kerala Professional Colleges Act was one among several moves that got derailed in the higher education sector,

Mr. Sudheeran said that the public would lose faith in the government, if it continues to adopt such wrong policies in education.

Referring to the SNC Lavalin case, Mr. Sudheeran alleged that the CPI (M) was trying to cover up the corruption involving its leaders without trying to prove their innocence in the court.

Leader of Opposition Oommen Chandy also spoke at the meeting.
