Teachers made to realise the need for training

MANGALORE: The heads of 30 schools and colleges were made to realise the need for a "good support system" to enrich their skills and deliver goods through a film show at a seminar here on Thursday.

The seminar was organised by the Teachers' Foundation. The film screened was "Shades of our school". The film was divided into several parts and at the end of each part, there was a discussion moderated by Maya Menon, director of the foundation.

The participants felt the need for continuous training that would enable them to learn new methods of teaching. The training sessions, they felt, should help them in exploring new paths of teaching. The video on "classroom discipline" made most of the teachers think whether to be liberal or overbearing in their approach. It showed three classes being handled by three teachers. One was unable to control the class, another very strict and able to control the class well, and the other being friendly, which the students misused. The discussion that followed analysed the three models of teachers and all of them agreed that classroom was a complex environment that needed different approaches to be effective to handle specific conditions.
