Common Mistakes during Interviews

Mistakes are inherent of human nature and they generally occur but when they happened during an interview it may cost you a job. Interviews fetch you a job within minutes and it all depends upon how you try to manage the situations so that you get favored. There are few issues you need to sort out before going to an interview they are: -

1)   Attire
2)   Resume updated one
3)   Knowledge about frequently asked questions and answers.
4)   Thorough knowledge about the projects you have done technical's.
5)   Soft skills
6)   Fresher`s need to have all their projects, technical`s, certificates, documents, seminar certificates, etc which will make them stand out a edge among their competitors.
Always remember bad breath and excessive perfume or aftershave will act as a major deterrent in the interview. Make sure that you apply a body deo and that should be in proportion so that it thwarts of your sweat. You would be sweating in the interview and it is good to use a deodorant. Have a mint before going into the interview but never chew or smoke during the interview.
If you want to impress the interviewer then it is imperative to dress for the occasion. Fifty percent of your chances of succeeding in an interview will be finalized by the way you dress. Never wear a jeans, shorts, short skirts, fancy garments etc because they give you an unprofessional look. Wear clothes in which you are comfortable never wear clothes in which you cannot sit or stand comfortably and this applies to both male and female. It is always good to wear a suit preferably of dark color and a full sleeve shirt with a matching tie and this should give you a professional look. Jewelry should be very moderate during the interview. Professional leather shoes with dark colored socks are very important.
Many of the HR department professionals opt for behavioral questions to asses the candidate about his merits and demerits. They believe past performance will be an indication for future performance. Make sure you read and answer adequate behavioral questions because they will trouble you during the interview.
Project report is a very important part of your Resume and this should have all the fields. Candidates need to have a thorough knowledge about the project report they have done, and he is judged based on the experience he gained through it. Make sure that you are familiar with all aspects of the project report because you may be questioned on your failures during the project, way you approached the deadline, positive and negative aspects of the project, programming languages, platforms, IDE, Behavior, Environment, Team members, Contribution, etc. If you are familiar with these then you can comfortably make an attempt to answer behavioral questions.
Never interrupt the interviewer while he is speaking because it can pass negative vibes about you. Ask for permission if you are in a group interview if you want clarification about a topic or discussion. If you are having an interview with the panel then it is always good to maintain eye contact with all the members of the group. Eye contact is necessary because it speaks a lot about your confidence.
If you are unsure about attending the interview it is better to ask your parents, friends, employee of that particular company and colleagues about that company.
Enough research should be done on the company, its products, services, etc because it gives you an edge when the interviewer asks you why this specific company you have applied to. Get enough knowledge about the job demands and read it thoroughly to get an idea about what questions you will be asked. Often questions will be asked on the company`s suitable requirements.
Soft skills are very important if you want to succeed in an interview. Make sure that you have thorough importance of soft skills. Some of them are greeting the interviewer and thank him for the opportunity. When you are in a group interview make yourself comfortable by greeting everyone present, you can introduce yourself and shake hand with members present if it is a group interview. If the interview is a panel, than make yourself comfortable by greeting the interviewers. At the end never forget to thank the interviewers and if possible send them a thank you note.
Get directions to the interview place. Don't be late if possible be there half hour before and relax yourself. Try learning the interviewers name and titles because it can help you in scoring in the interview.
