Tiruchi Chapter of ICWAI to launch three new programmes

TIRUCHI: In collaboration with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the Tiruchi Chapter of ICWAI (The Institute of Cost And Works Accountants of India) will launch three programmes: B.Com with major in Financial and Cost Accounting, M.Com in Management Accounting and Financial Strategies, and a one-year Certificate in Accounting Technician (CAT) course this month.

The B.Com F & CA programme consists of all courses of Foundation and Intermediate course of ICWAI. Meant for Plus Two students who had registered in the ICWAI Foundation Course, exemption is provided for certain courses on completion of ICWAI Intermediate.

They can obtain the B.Com degree by getting through the additional four papers of IGNOU. The duration is a minimum of three years and maximum of six years.

Likewise, the M.Com MA & FS programme meant for graduates of any discipline or equivalent from a recognised university / institution and a pass in ICWAI Intermediate includes courses meant for ICWAI Final.

On successful completion of ICWAI Final, students are given an exemption for the relevant courses.

They have to appear for four more papers of IGNOU to obtain the M.Com degree. The course could be completed from two to five years duration.

The CAT course of one-year duration has been introduced for Plus Two passed students or Graduates in view of heavy demand for Accountants at Junior level in India. The one-year course includes oral coaching, computer training, orientation training and practical training components.

Plus Two passed students of any group can join the course from January 2009 session simultaneously while pursuing any other degree programme since the coaching will be conducted in the evening hours, M. Sheik Mohamed, Chairman of the Tiruchi Chapter of Cost Accountants and Principal, Jamal Mohamed College, said in a communication.

The one-year course encompasses four papers of foundation course (Part – I) and two papers of competency level (Part-II). Students with an undergraduate degree are exempted from studying the foundation course.

The course, said Dr. Sheik Mohamed, will enable creation of many skill-oriented and qualified accountants suitable for any organisation. There is a heavy demand for qualified accountants and the supply is less, he said.

The three courses will be launched on January 11, 2009, by the President of ICWAI Kunal Banerjee, in the presence of the Institute Vice-President Durga Prasad, on behalf of the Southern India Regional Council, Chennai, the communication said.

A seminar on 'Management Accounting Strategies during Economic Uncertainties' that would be held on the day at the ICWAI, Tiruchi Chapter premises along Bharathidasan Salai, Cantonment, is expected to be attended by members of the Cost Accounting profession in Tiruchi, college principals, head masters of higher secondary schools, commerce teachers and Cost Accounting students, it said.
