COIMBATORE: Students from Coimbatore, Tirupur and the Nilgiris districts tested their knowledge and time management skills at the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE) model test organised by AIMS Education along with The Hindu Education Plus in the city on Sunday.

Conducted for the eighth consecutive year, the mock test offered the students a chance to understand where they stood in the race to professional colleges. "It is a great opportunity to get an experience of the actual AIEEE and learn from the mistakes here," said G.Nithish from Mani's Higher Secondary School. His friend V.M.Prabhakaran said the discussion following the examination would be of greater help to students who were looking for a direction to prepare for AIEEE.

The model examinations were conducted at PSG Sarvajana Higher Secondary School as well as Kikani School in Coimbatore. Erode and Salem had separate centres where the test was conducted.

Most of the students found physics tough. Chemistry and mathematics were comparatively easy. "As our concentration now is on the board examination, most of us didn't get time to prepare for the model examination," said K.Sudha and K.Maithily from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sulur. "You know exactly where you need to improve, which makes it easier to prepare for AIEEE," I.P.Megha, from the same school, added.

"We are looking forward to the discussion on the paper. Each question will be analysed in great detail at the session," said P.Harikumar and his friends A.Suresh Kumar and Amit Goenka from Vikas Vidyalaya Matriculation School, Tirupur.

S.Samroon Jahan and Archana G.Shenoy from St.Mary's School had a piece of advice for all the students preparing for the examination – "you have to be thorough with the portions of classes IX, X, XI and XII if you want to excel."

AIMS Education would arrange a guidance and counselling session on January 11 at the PSG Sarvajana School. The results of the model examination would be announced and the question paper would be discussed by faculty members from engineering colleges, said A.Vinod from AIMS Education, Coimbatore.

The session would be open to students who had not taken the model test too. "We expect a lot more students to appear for the guidance and counselling session," he said.

Online test series from April 14

MADURAI: For those candidates who are preparing for the All India Engineering Entrance Examination (AIEEE), an online test series would be conducted from April 14 to 24 to evaluate themselves about their preparation.

This online test series is being organised jointly by "The Hindu Education Plus" and AIMS Education, Chennai, for the benefit of students appearing for the national level entrance test.

Educationist and a specialist in entrance examinations, P. V. Navaneetha Krishnan, has stressed the advantages of taking the AIEEE online test series.

For those who are unsure of their preparedness for AIEEE, this test series serves as a 'test yourself kit", Prof. Navaneetha Krishnan suggests.

According to him, the inadequacies of both the State Board and CBSE students will disappear if the preparation was checked through the online test series.

The expert cites reasons for doing well in AIEEE because of the increased opportunities for admission to NITs.

He says that the intake in NITs has been enhanced recently because of the more number of institutes that have come up, including the one at Puducherry.

Also, extra seats were created to accommodate OBC quota.

Prof. Navaneetha Krishnan emphasises the importance of thorough preparation during this fortnight "since it is like a golden hour as is called in medical parlance."

More details about the online test series can be had on websites- www.thehindu.com- or www.aimseducation.com.

Payment can be made online or through demand draft.

Students can register for the test series by paying Rs.2,499.
