2008 Proclaimed Year of the Gamer

This year will be forever known in video gaming chronicles as the Year of Video Game Plenty. Many were the titles which graced our monitors or TVs these last 12 months, and Microsoft's Xbox 360 was particularly blessed in this respect.

Nintendo, in spite of absolutely stunning hardware sales, featured a much smaller number of attractive titles. As for the PS3, it did manage to win gamers' hearts with a few more exclusive titles than in the past, but the still dismayingly high price of Sony's console pushed many a buyer away.
And now, without further ado, let us do honor, in brief, to some of 2008's most outstanding titles (from a list compiled by Associated Press).

Fallout 3 from Bethesda was stunningly immersive, with a mind-boggling story set in post-nuclear Washington D.C.

Rock Band 2 kept the good stuff from the first Rock Band and gamers on their toes with new songs released every week.

LittleBigPlanet came with an original concept and a much-needed humorous atmosphere.

GTA IV laid Liberty City at our criminally-inclined feet.

Fable II brought a new breeze of fresh gameplay to the sometimes conservative world of RPGs.
Dead Space set the standards for sci-fi survival horrors for years to come.

Mirror's Edge showed that a blend between first-person shooters and platform games is quite possible and enjoyable.

Wrath of the Lich King raised World of Warcraft addiction to new, enviable, levels.

Prince of Persia's graphics were so artistically superior that the game looked like a moving, breathing, living painting.

And these are just a few of the bounty that was 2008. There was also Metal Gear Solid 4, Gears of War 2, Resistance 2 and many others. The good news is that 2009 shows no signs of being any different when it comes to game production. So enjoy your rest while you still can.
