6,000 teachers to be appointed, says Minister

Nagercoil: It has been decided to appoint 6,000 secondary grade teachers in the State on the basis of employment exchange seniority at the earliest, said the Minister for School Education, Thangam Thennarasu.

Speaking to the presspersons here on Saturday, he said the Government had issued orders to remove hard subjects from the syllabus of standard 10 to 12 for the benefit of students from rural areas.

The Government had taken steps to upgrade 100 middle schools into high schools and 100 high schools into higher secondary schools.

Moreover, 1,005 primary schools had been upgraded as middle schools in the district. Later, he attended a conference held at Sethu Lakshmi Bai Higher Secondary School here.

The Minister said that the Government had spent Rs. 83 crore for construction of additional school buildings and other infrastructure facilities in the State.

A sum of Rs. 9 crore would be allotted for construction of additional school buildings in six schools in different parts of the district with NABARD assistance including a sum of Rs. 94 lakh for construction of additional school building at SLB Higher Secondary School.

Tourism Minister N.Suresh Rajan, MLAs Rajan, Reginald, John Jacob and Leema Rose, and Collector Rajendara Kumar participated.
