TAMBARAM: Labour Minister T. M. Anbarasan on Wednesday distributed appointment orders to 1,032 youth who were recruited by various private firms in a special government job fair held about a fortnight ago.

The youth, most of whom are diploma-holders in technical vocations, were recruited by many companies in the Sriperumbudur industrial belt, including Nokia and Hyundai.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Anbarasan said 4.17 lakh youth had renewed their registration in employment exchanges after the State government had permitted them to do so.

Job fairs
These youth had not renewed their registrations for six years between 2001 and 2007, Mr. Anbarasan said.

Such job fairs received an overwhelming response as skilled and educated youth were able to find the right career openings, while for the companies, it saved a lot of time.

In Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts, at least five such government-sponsored job fairs were held so far this year and nearly 2,000 youths found employment.

Even at the present camp, which was conducted at Pallavaram on November 8, some more youths, in addition to the 1,032 successful youths, would also be receiving job orders.

450 days of training
At the end of 450 days of training, the selected youth would be made confirmed employees in the respective companies, he added.

T.Prabhakara Rao, Secretary, Labour and Employment, A.S.Jeevarathnam, Commissioner, Employment and Training, P.Anusuya Selvi, Zonal Deputy Director and Pallavaram Municipal Chairman E.Karunanidhi were also present in the function.
