SMS alerts for students

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched an SMS service for its students and staff across the country to keep them updated about various programmes and initiatives of the varsity.

While launching the service as a pilot project initiative on the varsity campus, University Vice Chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai said, 'This service will enable IGNOU to send SMS alerts to students from time to time about various developments.'

IGNOU also plans to declare results through SMS. The Vice Chancellor said that future SMS services will enable students to check their marks and information about their profile on demand. They can even update their profiles through SMS like their address and contact numbers to enable the varsity send study materials to them on time. At present, it has about 20 lakh students enrolled in its various programmes.
