New courses in super specialty likely soon

CHENNAI:
New super specialty courses in high risk pregnancies and perinatal medicine will be introduced by the National Board of Examinations, Board president A. Rajasekharan said on Saturday.

The process of establishing these Diploma National Board Courses has started, and the courses will be introduced shortly, he said, speaking at the 24th annual conference of the Obstetric and Gynaecological Society of Southern India (OGSSI).

He urged medical institutions to train students in these super specialties. He said maternal and perinatal (death of the foetus and the baby within seven days of birth) mortality was still high. In some parts of north India, maternal mortality ratio was 700 deaths per 1,00,000 live births. The OGSSI honoured eight gynaecologists.
