TIRUCHI: Compact Discs (CDs) on Simple English, to improve the communicative abilities of primary level students, are to be distributed to all Government, Government-aided, Panchayat Union, and Adi Dravida Welfare Schools by this month-end.

The ELCOT has already despatched the first consignment of 828 televisions, along with CDs, DVD players and tables meant to facilitate the teaching-learning process.

The second consignment of 427 televisions and other paraphernalia is expected, according to Education Department sources.

The orders were placed through the office of the State Project Director (SPD), Sarva Siksha Abhiyan. Each set of the materials costs Rs. 7,226.

To begin with, one school each in a Block will be supplied with the materials during this week, and from November 17, the distribution will be carried out to all the other allotted schools. The distribution will be monitored by the respective Block-level supervisors.
Time-table

The time-table has been set in such a way that two batches of students would undergo three sessions of one hour each every week to complete one lesson. The benefiting students will mainly comprise those in second standard though students of higher standards will also be accommodated. As per the time table specified by the office of the SPD, the sessions would be conducted between 12.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. for the first batch and from 1.30 p.m. to 2.30 p.m. for the second batch. Officials said that as per the schedule ten lessons in the CD would be completed by February 2009.

A baseline survey test has been contemplated to assess the achievement levels of the learners based on the contents in the CD and the work books that had already been supplied separately to the schools, sources added.
