    Samsung Electronics recruits 950 in India

Despite the economic gloom, Korean chaebol Samsung Electronics has beefed up its manpower strength and organisational structure in India. The company has just completed a fresh round of hirings by taking on its rolls around 950 people. Samsung has also roped in a battery of senior management professionals to consolidate its position in the consumer electronics and mobile phone business, reports Writankar Mukherjee in Kolkata.

The company has appointed a new director for the IT business and has created several senior-level positions for strategic channel management, digital mobile business and telecom product marketing. Samsung has also strengthened its sales force across consumer electronics, IT and telecom divisions and R&D workforce for the software centre at Noida. Of the 950 new recruits, around 400 people have been employed in R&D alone.


Samsung India vice-president (corporate HR) Sanjay Bali said the company has this year increased the number of branch offices from 20 to 50. "Our focus this year in terms of recruitment has been towards strengthening the organisation structure by creating new positions as well as supporting the expansion needs, as in the case of R&D and sales," Mr Bali told ET.

Samsung has just appointed Ranjit Singh Yadav as director of its IT business from HP. Mr Yadav was the director, Asia-Pacific Japan, at HP and was based in Singapore. Samsung's IT division includes the display business, hard disk drive, optical media solution products and printers. Samsung claims to be the market leader in both LCD monitor and OMS product segments in India.
